Feeling artistic? three freebies

Want something fun and free to play around with this weekend? Here are three applications to try out:

1. Beautiful Dorena. It’s weird, it’s hard to describe, and it’s interesting in an experimental kind of way. Great for kids.
2. MozoDojo. I used this program to create a large mosaic print project. It’s amazing. Turn a photo into a beautiful mosaic with surprising ease.
3. ArtRage (starter edition). A nice and simple painting tool that delivers surprisingly realistic results. Paint with simulated oil, charcoal, pencils, chalk, crayons, etc.

  1. I’ve been playing with ArtRage the last few weeks and love it! Haven’t found a use for it yet for actual work but I managed to kill countless hours making “happy little trees.” I’m very anxious to find a work project where I can use it’s unique abilities to combine the tools it offers with photography.

  2. ArtRage is lots of fun. I have found it to be rather zen-like. After installing it, I must have spent 30 minutes just swishing the brushes around the screen. I’m impressed by the realistic brushes and the customization options for them. I can see using this for creating textures design backgrounds, among other things.

  3. Yeah, I think it’s an underrated app — it is very zen. Have you ever played with the demo of http://www.synthetik.com/“ title=”” rel=”nofollow”>Studio Artist? It’s quite expensive, but it does some fascinating things with photos and videos. I’ve only used the demo, but someday when I’m rich 🙂 I may buy it. It’s great to hear from you!
